lyrics

Intro
Poetics, no, no.

Chorus
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead.

Verse
Yo, yo, you may not know me, I don’t write poetry,
I don’t imitate, I only lead,
And hope to god that someday I’ll be recognized for talent,
Instead of fuck you, Achilles,
You want to know about Poetics? We’ll this ain’t free, so get your checkbook,
Aristotle seems to know, but here’s a second look,
We may realize that it ruins what you enjoy,
So, fuck you, Aristotle, new phrase, I’m sick of Troy,
He says poetry is imitation, and if that’s true,
Then what does that make rap or whatever it is I do?
Focusing on tragedy, ‘cause he’s a happy guy,
Time to analyze those who suffer and they die,
But tragedy must be superior to epic poems,
Though Homer is the best thing we read, hands down,
It’s an opinion, but I’ll say it ‘cause I can,
Just one of three, so you’ll hear it again.

Chorus
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead,
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead.

Verse
Yo, it’s tragic that this shit is so highly regarded,
Is read by kids who don’t notice,
Take what you feed them, so open wide,
Here’s tragic poetry in the order to write,
Number one, you better have a plot worth reading,
A person must go from happy to barely breathing,
Or not breathing at all, so now point number two,
The importance of character couldn’t be lost on you,
Number three, that goes to thought, and what’s more,
You gotta have good diction, ‘cause that’s point number four,
Five is melody and that matters most to me,
Even when I rap, you know it’s gotta be,
Number six is the last part and apparently the least,
Spectacle is what you need to finish the tragedy,
So, let me say this and you can listen,
That ain’t poetry, why must he ruin everything?

Chorus
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead,
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead.

Verse
Yo, I don’t write poetry and that’s fine with me,
But, this skill is epic and it’s a tragedy,
That I can rock the mic like no other,
But it’s only heard by dozens though they love it,
I need to cover my expenses a little better, no one buys what they can try,
And no one buys what they cannot try, lesson? No one buys,
It’s a damn shame, but it happens, so I cope,
I gotta keep on rockin’ ‘cause I know this shit is dope,
I don’t imitate, imitated? That I’ll be,
Who should I sound like? Hell, I’ll sound like me,
‘Cause nothing can mess with what I got, ‘cause what I got is the best,
And if you try to take me on, you won’t have nothin’ left,
Poetics, it’s not what I do,
But if you examine my life, it’ll be clearer to you,
So understand this, I have no use for Aristotle,
Drop the beat, ‘cause I won’t fall into the pothole.

Chorus
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead,
You may not know me,
I don’t write poetry,
And I don’t imitate,
I only lead.
